MedTrace Installs P3 System at Sahlgrenska University Hospital

MedTrace Pharma A/S has signed a contract with Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden for the installation of a new P3 production and infusion system providing up to 1000 doses of 15O-water per year for the next five years.

The Gothenburg-based hospital, one of the largest in Northern Europe, has three PET CT scanners and is planning to install a fourth. MedTrace’s P3 system will be installed next to one of the existing scanners and connected to the nearby cyclotron. It will be used primarily for cardiac perfusion indications, with the potential be used in other indications in the future.

The MedTrace 15O-water technology will clearly help us to improve our diagnostic work-up of patients with clinically suspected or known coronary artery disease,” says Kerstin Åmark, Head of the Department of Clinical Physiology at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital. “We are looking forward to add this known reference standard for myocardial perfusion imaging to our repertoire of diagnostic methods.

The Sahlgrenska University Hospital, which boasts world-leading research and highly specialized patient care, is MedTrace’s second major client in Sweden. MedTrace has been working with Uppsala University Hospital since 2020.

“I’m excited to welcome Sahlgrenska University Hospital to our list of 15O-water users. Clearly, there is a great deal of interest in 15O-water in Sweden, says René Duvander, Director, Commercial Business Development at MedTrace Pharma A/S.

The P3 system will be installed in Sahlgrenska University Hospital in February, and the process of clinical validation is expected to take about three months, suggesting the P3 system will be ready for operation already in Q2 2022.
